Amy Jo Hallock
Amy Jo Hallock of Prattsville, NY died April 21, 2025 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany NY after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Amy had Li-Fraumeni Syndrome that is a genetic mutation that causes people to be unable to successfully fight off cancer cells. She was born to Debbie Hallock, June 1, 1979 in Catskill, NY.
She attended SUNY Delhi and earned her RN. Her nursing career included Countryside Nursing Center in Delhi, NY, Robinson Terrace, Stamford NY and for many, many years at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville, NY. She held positions at Mountainside including nursing supervisor, resident care coordinator, education, and director of nursing. She faithfully and successfully led Mountainside through the COVID-19 pandemic, and her exemplary leadership helped them to be one of the 1% of nursing homes in the entire country whose residents avoided contracting COVID-19 during that time. Her creativity and knowledge helped make learning fun for staff, and she taught a certified nursing assistant class whose graduates loved her and continue to exemplify what she taught them. She was a natural for the nursing profession. She was a kind and compassionate nurse, a mentor to her fellow employees and students. A friend from Mountainside shared that Amy valued the lives of others - people who society might consider having little consequence in life, but to her they were VIPs.
She was a lover of art. She drew and painted beautifully and passed along her works to friends and family. She spent many hours sitting in the sunshine, painting and watching the birds (especially a favorite wild turkey named Butterball) while surrounded by her many sunflowers. She also wrote, keeping journals and had an article in the Health Alliance of Hudson Valley Oncology Newsletter. She also hoped to complete a book on her cancer journey with all proceeds going to those battling cancer for expenses other than medical.
Amy was a devoted and loving partner, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She was so easy to love. She is survived by her fiancée Joseph Marsh, her sons Jordan and Keegan Clark and Aiden Finch, her brother Jesse Voeks and her sister Barbara Guluk (Lennard). She was predeceased by her mother, Debbie Marie Hallock.
A Celebration of Amy’s Life will be May 1, 2025 at the Reformed Church in Prattsville, NY from 2-4 pm with a service following with the Reverend Richard Dykstra officiating.
