David Updyke

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Marshall Updyke. He departed this life on October 30th, 2025 at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville, New York. Born on September 20th, 1955 in Rome, New York to Marshall and Marie (Sanders) Updyke. He married Melanie Marie Sadlon on July 31st, 1982 and was a loving husband to her for 43 years. He also was the father to Afton Marie and Jacinta Marie. 

He served in the Air Force and became a Radiologic Technologist. He worked at both Margaretville Memorial Hospital and Eastern Correctional Facility. David loved food, music, and most of all loved spending time with his family and his friends. Two quotes that he always would say are "Life is uncertain so you need to eat dessert first" and "Most people eat to live, but I live to eat". 

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Marshall and Marie. His little sister, Lisa. His great nephew, Robert (Bo). He was also preceded in death by several brother-in-laws.

He is survived by his loving wife, Melanie. His daughter Afton and son-in-law, Micah, his beloved grand daughters Amelia Marie, Dallas Rosemarie, and Claire Farron. He is also survived by his daughter, Jacinta. Not only did David and his wife adopt their oldest daughter, they also unofficially adopted a few more children and their children. David is also survived by his sister Christine and brother-in-law Richard Illingworth of Camden, New York. Nephews; Patrick St.Thomas (Melissa), John Jameson. Nieces; Toni St.Thomas, Nicole (William) Kantor, Jenna (Chris) Lambe and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
