Helga Charlotte German
Helga Charlotte German, of Oneonta, New York, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, at the age of 87.
Born on April 20, 1939, in Augsburg, Germany, Helga married Andrew German of Roxbury, New York, on August 18, 1958. In 1964, they moved to the United States with their two sons, Anthony and Christopher, where they built a life centered on family, hard work, and community. Andrew, her beloved husband of 59 years, predeceased her in 2017.
Helga was a diligent professional throughout her career. She worked at Deak National Bank, the National Bank of Stamford, New York, and later at the Roland Stafford Golf School, and was known for her strong work ethic and warm personality.
She found joy in many pursuits, including traveling, knitting, hunting, cooking, bowling, spending time with friends, and participating in her church community. Above all, Helga cherished her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and took immense pride in being "Nana" to her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who brought her endless happiness.
Helga will be remembered for her warm smile, her easy laugh, and her no-nonsense approach to life. She had a remarkable way of noticing the little things; a fresh manicure, a new piece of jewelry, or a thoughtful detail that others might overlook, and she never missed an opportunity to offer a sincere compliment. Her kindness, attentiveness, and genuine interest in others made those around her feel seen and appreciated.
A celebration of Helga's life will be held at the Miller Funeral Home, located at 53905 State Highway 30/Main Street, Roxbury, NY on Sunday, September 6, 2026. Calling hours will be held from 11:00am–1:00pm with a graveside service at Roxbury Cemetery immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Helios Care of Oneonta in her memory.
