Marian N. McMurray
Marian McMurray, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at Mountainside Residential Center in Margaretville, NY on Saturday August 22, 2026. She was born on May 13th, 1933, in Blue Point NY. Marian was the daughter of John Edward and Gertrude Noble. She had two sisters, Peg and Jane, who predeceased her.
Marian's life was a testament to love, devotion and a gentle spirit. On April 23, 1955, she married the love of her life, Gordon McMurray, with whom she built a beautiful family. Together they raised two children, Scott and Lisa, who along with their spouses, Claudia and Peter, carry on Marian’s legacy. Her greatest joy was her family including her five grandchildren, Katy (Kane), Jennifer, Colleen, Karly (Dan) and Nick (Lauren) and her four great granddaughters, Kai, Ari, Koa and Gianna.
She worked as a dental hygienist in the local area before moving on to become a medical receptionist with local doctors where she was known for her dedication and warm demeanor. Marian was involved in her community, contributing her time to the Margaretville Hospital Auxiliary and the Margaretville Fire Department Auxiliary. She loved playing cards with her friends and embarking on shopping adventures with her daughter and daughter-in-law. She relished time spent with family, especially at the beach. Her easy going personality endeared her to the people she met throughout her life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mountainside, especially Mikel and Tammy for their compassionate care and support. We also wish to thank Elaine Faulkner for helping to make end of life arrangements a little easier.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Marian’s memory to Helios Care, 297 River Street Service Rd., Oneonta NY 13820.
Memorial visitation will be held on Monday August 31, 2026 from 11am-12noon at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, NY. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation.
