Charles W. “Charlie” Scully

Charles Scully, 93, of Margaretville, N.Y., passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025. Born on January 16, 1932, in Kingston, N.Y., Charles lived a life defined by dedication to family, community, and country.
Charles proudly served his nation as a member of the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955 and was a veteran of the Korean War. In 1958, he married his beloved wife, Dorothy Ann Hull, beginning a 67-year partnership built on love and laughter. Together, they welcomed their son Charles in 1969.

Charlie is survived by his wife Dorothy(Dottie), son Charles (Chuck), granddaughters Mackenzie and Kayleigh, his sisters Judy Casimir and Bonnie Merchant and many nieces and nephews.

Charles devoted much of his career—28 years—to the New York State Department of Transportation, retiring with the respect of his colleagues thanks to his tireless work ethic. A true outdoorsman, Charles took great joy in hunting with his beagles, deer hunting with his brother-in-law Francis, working in his garden, and keeping his lawn immaculate.

Deeply engaged in his community, Charles volunteered as a firefighter with the Arkville Fire Department. Known for his laughter and unwavering devotion to those around him, he touched many lives.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 21 at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., with a graveside service to follow. Charles' spirit, humor, and example of hard work will be dearly missed.
