Hazel Filupeit
On March 22, 2026, Hazel Mae Filupeit, 93, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished memories with family and friends. Hazel was born November 16, 1932 in Margaretville, NY. She was the daughter of her mother, Marjorie "Peggy" Payette and stepfather Ernest Payette.
Hazel was the beloved wife of the late Arthur F. Filupeit, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage before his passing in 2020. Together, they raised their family side by side in Arkville and built a life rooted in love, resilience, and deep family connections.
Hazel was a dedicated and hardworking member of her community, serving for 22 years in the kitchen at Margaretville Central School where she greeted everyone with a warm smile.
Hazel found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved gardening, spending time tending to her flowers and enjoying the beauty they brought. She also enjoyed shopping, scenic drives through the mountains, walks with her friends and nights out dancing with her husband. After relocating to Margaretville, Hazel especially cherished time spent sitting on her front porch, where she could greet and chat with neighbors as they passed by.
Above all, Hazel’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother to her two sons, Timothy (Cindy) and the late Thomas Sr.(LuAnn). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to six grandchildren Marisa, Krista, Thomas Jr., Kelly (Dave), Amy (Zachary), and Erin (Grant) and a great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren Ryan, Laila, Liam, Caroline, and Carter, all of whom she adored deeply. She also held a special place in her heart for all of her “grand-dogs,” who brought her much happiness.
Hazel will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, her warm spirit, and the genuine joy she found in connecting with others. Her love for her family and her community will live on in the many lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family will hold a graveside service on June 20, 2026 at 11AM in the Margaretville Annex.
