ROGER R. BARCHITTA

Roger Barchitta passed on March 10, 2026 in Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Roger was born in Brooklyn, New York to Angelina and Sebastian Barchitta. The family moved to the South Beach neighborhood of Staten Island when Roger was a young child. He attended Public School 46 and graduated from New Dorp High School in 1960. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wagner College also on Staten Island. He received a Master of Science in Public Administration from Russell Sage College. Roger was a former NYC Youth Board Street Gang Worker, Foster Care Worker, NYC Probation Officer, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, Chemical Dependency Counselor and Prevention Educator.
Roger met and married his late wife Renee and they lived in Queens. The couple then relocated to Albany, Delhi and then to Roxbury, New York, to a home built by his father Sebastian. Roger was employed for 24 years as an addiction treatment professional as a: Counselor, Supervisor, Manager and Director of Chemical Dependency Treatment and Community- Based Prevention Programs. After his retirement from DPCA in 2005 he was employed as a Training Consultant for OASAS by co-facilitating a statewide pilot training program: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Impact on the Juvenile Justice System.
Roger enjoyed hunting and fishing, he and his wife Renee took pride in the extensive garden they cultivated. He was a voracious reader and a lifelong history and political buff. Roger was also preceded in death by his parents Angelina and Sebastian and his sister Paula Caruso. He is survived by his nephew Nick (wife Leah) and great-nieces Koral and Charlotte; nephew Paul and great niece Mya Luna and one great-great niece; his cousin Paul (wife Rita) who he grew up with from their earliest years. Roger is also survived by many friends and relatives, cousins living near and far, including those living in the family hometown of Scordia, Sicily. Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Hynes Funeral Home in Roxbury New York. A Memorial Service will be held later this year.
