With heavy hearts, we share that Steven Jay Tanzer, 66, passed away on February 12, 2026. He was a devoted father to Elia and Sam Tanzer (wife Anna), whose lives were shaped by his steady guidance, humor, and love. He was also a loving son to Hannah and Al Tanzer, carrying forward the values of integrity and loyalty that defined his life.

A lighthearted and generous friend, Steven was a steady presence who could always be counted on, offering humor, support, and care to those around him. He was a trusted accountant in the Margaretville community, building relationships rooted in honesty and dedication, and proudly served as treasurer for the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department for 27 years.

He generously shared his time coaching little league baseball, soccer, and basketball with patience and encouragement, and he enjoyed playing softball himself. A true “mountain man,” Steven loved making new trails, listening to classic rock, and attending tribute band concerts. Above all, he cherished time with his grandsons, Brantley and Grady, who brought him immense pride and joy.

Steven is also survived by his life partner of 25 years, Elizabeth Tanzer, his brother Lawrence, and nephews Jarod and Jason. He will be remembered for his love of family, deep friendships, and connection to his community, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday February 17, 2026 from 11am-2pm at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, NY. Burial will immediately follow at Congregation B’Nai Israel Cemetery, Clovesville, NY.
