Wayne R. Wyckoff

Wayne passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2026, following a long illness. Born on October 15, 1956, in Margaretville, New York, he was the son of Wesley and Evelyn Wyckoff. Wayne carried forward a family tradition by working for many years in accounting and tax preparation, a profession he shared with his mother and took pride in.

Wayne shared 19 loving years of marriage with his wife, Tammie (Archer) Wyckoff. He is also survived by his sister, Betty;  children, Mary (Dalton) Washburn of Clayville, NY, Christina Hempstead of Prattsville, NY, and Tamisha Garcia-Schutte (Andrew) of Raytown, Missouri; as well as six cherished grandchildren. He will also be remembered fondly by his cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Community service was important to Wayne. For more than 20 years, he was a dedicated member of the Fire Police with the Grand Gorge Fire Department and belonged to the New York State Fire Police Association. He valued the friendships and sense of purpose that came with serving his community.

Wayne found great joy in music and live performances, frequently attending concerts and cover bands at the Oneonta Performing Arts Center. He especially loved the rock music of the 1970s and 1980s, with Lynyrd Skynyrd and Fleetwood Mac among his favorites. He often shared stories of attending the original Woodstock festival in his youth. Bowling was another passion, and he enjoyed traveling to participate in tournaments over the years.

Wayne was a BIG Buffalo Bills fan. He and I would always bet when the Bills played against the Kansas City Chiefs. The bet was always a Yankee dime. (A little peck on the cheek). He had a running rivalry with one of the department members!

A memorial service to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held at a later date.

Those wishing to honor Wayne’s memory may consider making a donation to their local fire department.
