Eunice Ransom

In loving memory of Eunice M Ransom nee Dougherty who passed on the 26th of April 2025 in Delhi, NY.  Eunice was born in Februaury 1928 in New Kingston, NY.  She was the 4th child of Inez and William Dougherty.  She spent her early years in New Kingston, Arena, Fleischmann's, Dry Brook, and Margaretville caring for various family members. 
She was married to Donald Monington of Arena and they had three daughters Nancy, Donna, and Jeannie.  Prior to moving to Cortland in 1965, she worked at the Inn Between and then owned and operated a diner behind where the old Bun and Cone used to stand in Margaretville. 
In Cortland, she worked at the Smith Corona factory and drove a taxi cab.
In 1968 she moved to the Newburgh area where she worked various retail positions.  In 1993 she moved back to New Kingston where she worked as a caregiver and cleaned homes.
She is survived by her brother's Henry and Robert and her sister Ida; her daughters Nancy and Jeannie; her grandchildren Denise, Dawn, Jon, Jaime, Rebecca, Timothy, and James; her eight great grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. 
She is predeceased by her parents Inez and William; her sisters Bessie, Mary, Wreatha, Alice, and Lena; her brothers William and Richard; grandson Harry; husbands Donald and William; and her daughter Donna. 
Eunice was a loving, kind, forgiving, and generous soul.  She cherished time with her family; especially her grandchildren.  She was a wonderful cook and baker, and she loved to square dance and listen to Charlie Pride.  She always had room for chocolate.
We miss you but we'll see you again.  Love you always and forever and ever...and the whole wide universe!

Calling hours will be Thursday May 9, 2025 from 12pm-2pm at Hynes Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Shirley Davis officiating and burial will be in the New Kingston Cemetery.
